Shea butter is known for its anti-aging, soothing, and moisturizing properties and is full of natural vitamin A and E which makes it perfect for skincare. Vitamin E encourages new skin cell production and vitamin A is a powerful antioxidant. Moonbaby uses raw and unrefined shea butter which is amazing for the skin and is extremely nourishing and moisturizing when applied.
Shea butter is amazing as a diaper-cream because it has anti-fungal and anti-inflammatory properties. It helps improve blood circulation and promotes cell regeneration while providing improved collagen production. This is super important for healing any rashes or skin irritation quickly. It will leave your baby’s bum smooth and soft! Shea will melt directly when in contact with the skin and gets absorbed easily. The butter has the ability to hydrate, balance and soothe the skin and can be used for a lot of things.
Vitamin-E oil is not a single vitamin, but rather a group of fat-soluble vitamins with antioxidant effects. Besides being deeply nourishing it is also a natural preservative, which is why we use it in our balms.
- Candelilla wax is a great option if you are looking for vegan alternatives to wax. It acts as a barrier and helps prevents moisture loss. It basically builds a protective layer on your baby’s bum so it can prevent diaper rashes. Candelilla wax is rich in nutrients and easily absorbed into the skin, allowing it to act as a barrier and help prevent moisture loss.
- Extra virgin coconut oil This amazing, nutritious and nourishing oil is antibacterial, hydrating and packed with antioxidants and vitamin E. Coconut oil is anti-fungal because it contains three antifungal fatty acids called lauric acid (also found in breastmilk), capric acid and caprylic acid. It protects the skin from potential pathogens and can reduce the risk of bacterial infections. So besides being moisturizing and deep cleansing, coconut oil can also keep bacterial populations under control. This makes it perfect to treat any (diaper) rash. Coconut oil is especially good for babies/children because of its tenderness and allergy is very uncommon. Coconut oil melts on the skin as soon as you apply it and due to its small molecular structure, the oil absorbs easily through the skin and into the cell structure of the connective tissues, moisturizing deeply and thoroughly. In this way, coconut oil has the ability to actually restore diseased or damaged skin easily.
Safe & hypoallergenic
There’s a great misunderstanding that when one is allergic to nuts they cannot use coconut oil. It does come from the coconut trees but botanically speaking it is a dupe, not a nut! So there should be no reason why a person with peanut or nut allergies should have a similar reaction to coconut oil. It is scientifically proven that the protein in nuts causes allergic reactions and coconut oil doesn’t contain any proteins. Coconut oil is very safe for babies and people with sensitive skin. Though every case is different and an allergic reaction could occur. It could be sensitivity to on did the other fatty acids in the oil. Make sure to speak with your health care provider when in doubt.
